Bhabha Atomic Research Centre has developed a thermal plasma torch that takes air from the atmosphere and converts it into a plasma. It is offering the technology for Rs 12 lakh.
The torch can produce a plasma jet that is over 300mm long, with temperature at exit over 8,000K (7,720 C). According to BARC, since the torch uses air as gas, it is of low operational cost, light weight and easy to handle. Further, the life of electrode is much longer.
