Aligarh Muslim University’s Prof Yasser Rafat is spearheading a research project to develop solar-based, wireless e-vehicle charging station, The French multinational, ST Mircoelectronics, has joined the research and will provide some funds. The wireless charging station will eliminate the human dependency on fleet EV charging. The user has to just park the vehicle on the charging site. The vehicle will automatically charge, before charging user will be asked for payment and can easily be dome through cashless/cash means. Charging time will depend on the requirement of the user.
Both charging time and charging level up to which the battery is to be charged will be asked from the user. According to the user preferences, the charging will be automatically set. The resonant inductive power technology will be used for transferring the power, which will be developed as hardware in the loop.
The communication aspect will also be evaluated with the latest data acquisition testing technologies (NI instruments). The technology will eliminate the power theft, charging station queuing, and optimize the charging station search and charging time. With the addition of some latest features for automatic detection of the vehicle, charging level, SOC, SOH various safety aspects related to charging can be added.

The project is at TRL-3 and will take a couple of years to be commercial-ready.
