GOLD – QUALITY ASSURANCE
National Research Development Corporation has invented a ‘gold analyser’ and is ready to transfer the technology to interested companies. This device is meant to assure customers buying gold jewellery of the quality of the gold.
The conventional touchstone method is too crude; fire assay is expensive. Both are destructive.
NRDC’s gold analyzer is quick, accurate and is completely non-destructive. This technique has been developed by CSIO, Chandigarh and is based on X-ray fluorescence spectrometry and specially developed for the jewellery industry to examine the content of the precious metal. The complete quantitative analysis is carried out using personal computer through dedicated software.
It is also liquid-Nitrogen-free. The CCD imaging displays the sample on the monitor. The karat value is also displayed.
