DRDO offers technology to make a neutraceutical quercetin bar, eating which is good for health, but something which is particularly suited for high altitude life. Q-DIP is a plant-based flavonol, which will help reduce or prevent incidence of ‘acute mountain sickness’ and ‘high altitude pulmonary edema’, and importantly, memory dysfunction.
It essentially consists of carbohydrates, fats, proteins and dietary fiber with the active principal molecule being quercetin, which is an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory phyto flavonol . Eating the bar also boosts immunity, assists vascular leakage and brings with it a host of anti-disease properties. DRDO says it is a non-toxic food and does not have any side effects. Q-DIP has been tested and cleared at the NABL-accredited FICCI Research and Analysis Center. DRDO has also obtained FSSAI licence for it.
