Gracilaria debilis cultivation technology was developed by CSIR to produce homogenous pure quality raw material for agar (pharmaceutical grade agar) and bio-stimulant production in India. Its feasibility was tested up to 50 rafts scale and suitability for growth was tested more than 10 coastal villages in Ramnad, Tamilnadu. Next to Kappaphycus alvarezii, Gracilaria debilis is the only alga showing equal biomass yield and growth rate and it is proven by publication in esteemed journal. Agar may be used in Pharmaceutical as well as food industries and bio-stimulant may use in agricultural crop production purpose. The big advantage is indigenous alga, can be cultivated in any parts of the main coast in India without any restriction.
