The National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (NIIT) has developed to produce Biodegradable cutleries, cups, glass and plates from agro wastes.
The developed product is shelf stable up to the period of 10 to 12 months and heat resistant up to the temperature of 100 0 C. It is found to be ideal for replacing the single use plastics and also the above said technology have been licensed and transferred two MSME’s for commercial production. It can be used in classic ovens/ microwave oven. It is also eco friendly, bio degradable, micro wave friendly, can hold water content for some time, not smelly, aesthetic looking, eatable if required, edible flavours to be added to get different tastes and colours.
It has a huge potential use especially for Indian railways (IRCTC), Airlines, Temples, Gurdwaras, where ever hot and cold meals are served. It can be used in classic ovens/ microwave oven. The initial expensive is very less lost so it’s affordable to MSME and other small scale industries.
